10 years in jail for Dutywa taxi driver, who attempted to rape passenger

Jan 31, 2019The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced a 31-year-old man, Ezile Gxalaba, to undergo 10 years imprisonment for attempted rape.”It is alleged that a 19-year-old woman hitchhiked a Quantum taxi on the 4th March 2017 at about 22:00 at Nyakatho Locality, Sinqumeni Village, Dutywa,” said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.”The victim found the driver alone and instead of taking the woman to her home, the suspect drove the Quantum taxi to his home.”He dragged the victim to his house where he tried to undress her.”Woman fought the taxi driver and managed to escapeCapt Manatha said that the victim fought back and managed to escape.”She opened a rape case at Dutywa Police Station.”He added that the case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence and Child Protection Unit (FCS).”The accused was later traced and arrested.”Follow more RNEWS articles, subscribe to our YouTube channel and for breaking news LIKE us on Facebook.
