A brutal mugging has left an 81-year-old woman hospitalised.
Friends said Hester Kleynhans was walking back to her home at around lunchtime on Friday, after going shopping at a local supermarket. Before she got home, a man attacked her at the Colley Street Bridge, punching her in the head.
SAPS spokesman, Captain V Mbense said Mrs Kleinhans collapsed to the pavement as a result of the blow. She then told her attacker she had no money. He then took her groceries and R50 she had on her, before fleeing the scene.

Friends, who did not want to be named, said passers-by came to her aid and called an ambulance. She is currently in Ward C at Dundee Hospital, and is apparently ‘not doing very well’.
No arrests have been made yet. SAPS has urged the elderly also to ensure they have company when walking to and from town.
