A 35-year-old taxi driver has been arrested for reckless and negligent driving on the N1 between Leeu Gamka and Beaufort West in the Karoo. This follows hot on the heels of four others yesterday who were nabbed for similar offences on the same stretch of road. Two of them were arrested for drunk driving and one for being in possession of a fake driver’s licence. The fourth arrest was similar to the latest case, where the minibus taxi driver drove into oncoming traffic with flashing lights in order for them to make way for him. Western Cape Traffic Chief, Kenny Africa, says endangering the lives of others will not be tolerated. The death toll in the Western Cape for the month currently stands at just over a 100.
