A 39-year-old hiker has sustained serious injuries after losing his footing in a river on a hiking path in Du Toitskloof Pass between Paarl and Worcester. ER-24 spokesperson, Ineke van Huyssteen says rescue workers hiked for an hour and- a half to get to the patient’s location. He was assessed and found that he had sustained serious injuries to his ankle. He was stabilised at the bottom of the gorge and then taken by Rescue Technicians, using their specialised equipment, to the top of the gorge. The hike up took almost three hours. He was transported to hospital for further medical care.
