A Black Hawk helicopter will be arriving at the Stellenbosch air base on Saturday evening to bolster aerial firefighting capabilities in the Western Cape. Working on Fire’s Trevor Abrahams says the owner of the helicopter, Leading Edge aviation has agreed that the Black Hawk be brought down from Nelspruit in Mpumalanga to the Cape for the rest of the fire season.”The Black Hawk is able to dispense 3 thousand litres of water and foam mix drop and will in fact bring added advantage to our current fleet deployed against the fires in the Western Cape. ” The Western Cape currently has a fleet of nine spotter planes, eight Huey helicopters and four fixed wing water bombers to combat fires from the air.” (photo: Wikipedia)
