A Cape Town clerk of the court has been sentenced in the Specialised Commercial Crimes court in Bellville to five years direct imprisonment and a further eight years suspended for corruption and defeating the ends of justice. Siyabulela Sono worked at the Wynberg magistrate’s court. In 2017, he promised a woman who appeared in court on a theft charge that he would sell her the docket for five thousand rand. He also promised that the proseutor would make her fingerprints disappear from the system. The woman borrowed the money from her sister as she was unemployed. She was however later convicted and sentenced. She told her Correctional Supervision Officer what had happened. Sono was arrested and entered into a plea and sentencing agreement with the state. The NPA’s Eric Ntabazalila says the sentence once again demonstrates the State’s commitment to clean the public service of corruption and criminal elements.

  1. Good but also look at those who loot at government and were found guilty. The justice system must be fair to everyone. Not long ago our former President was found by the court to have misused state funds and nothing happened to him. He was just told to pay back the money. I am sure those that are implicated in the VBS saga will not be prosecuted or the recommendations from the useless,wasteful commission will be that they must pay back money. Ey S.A.
