Members of the Verulam Rotaract Club with the boxed hampers handed out to 22 families across Verulam, Tongaat and Phoenix.
Diwali is one of the most significant festivals in the Indian culture. This colourful holiday is celebrated with prayers, baked goodies and firework displays around the world.
Members of the Rotaract Club of Verulam understands that many homes are unable to celebrate this beautiful festival due to poverty and unfavorable conditions.
This year, the club conducted its annual Diwali project which assisted 22 indigent families across Verulam, Phoenix and Tongaat.
The project is one of the largest projects that the club initiates.

Members of the club collected and packaged boxful of groceries, toiletries, household items, fireworks and eastern clothing which was then distributed to families in need last week.
Club president, Bhavisthra Ramlagan, said, “There are many families that are poverty-stricken and handing out these hampers gives the members and myself a great sense of happiness that these families can celebrate this joyous festival. These hampers will also sustain the families after Diwali. This project adds so much value to our community and we hope others initiates this in their lives.”
