A former 42-year old Adult Basic Education and Training teacher has appeared in the Oudtshoorn Magistrate’s Court for fraud. Hawks spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase, says it is alleged that Tasmyn Lynn Dorothy, who worked as a teacher and manager at different learning centres around the town, registered ghost learners to gain financial benefits from the Western Cape Department of Education. The department subsequently lost nearly a million rand between January 2010 and May 2013. Nkwalase says Dorothy was released on bail of two thousand five hundred rand and the case has been postponed until the sixth of September.
