A founding member of the cult German disco band, “Boney M”, with her singers, dancers and 12- piece orchestra kick of a special South African Christmas concert tour in Cape Town this evening. The voice of the legendary vocal group, Liz Mitchell, with her new co-singers have chosen to spend the festive season with South Africans in the Mother City, Pretoria and Port Elizabeth from today until the Day of Goodwill, next Wednesday. The promoters say South Africans should regard themselves blessed because this has not happen before anywhere in the world. The multi-platinum act with record sales of over 150 million first performed in Southern Africa in 1984 at Sun City, while an international cultural boycott against South Africa was still in place. Local fans then had to wait 27 years when Mitchell, with the same new line-up toured the country for the first time in 2011.
