A large part of a fire up in the mountains at McGregor in the Western Cape has been contained. Cape Winelands fire fighters have spent the night battling the blaze. Families that were evacuated from the area and its surroundings in the Langeberg Municipality have returned to their homes. The fire has destroyed about 9000 hectares of vegetation so far. Cape Winelands Fire and Rescue Spokesperson, Heinrich Louw: “Fire-fighting operations continued through the night with no damage to property and or injuries reported. The head of the fire has now moved into Overberg’s area but the Cape Winelands are still assisting at Grootkloof farm. Following our size up it was decided that no aerial support will be activated. But we rather committed more ground teams. At the moment 70 percent of the fire in the Winelands area is contained and mopping up operations will continue throughout the day.”
