A permanent anti-gang unit consisting of 95 members will be officially launched in Cape Town tomorrow. President Cyril Ramaphosa will join Police Minister Bheki Cele to formally launch the unit in Hanover Park on the Cape Flats. The Anti-Gang Unit has been in operation since the 8th of last month. Cele says it is made up of members from specialised units who can dislodge and weaken the capacity of organised gangs. Members will be deployed to other crime-ridden areas such as Nyanga, Bonteheuwel and Bishop Lavis. In an apparent show of force today, the anti-gang unit visited Mitchells Plain in preparation for tomorrow.

  1. Would’ve kept this gang unit private and unmarked uniform and vehicles gangster see them coming a mile away and they got watchers that inform them wen gatas is in the area

  2. I stand to be corrected, but I recall the DA asking for assistance wrt gang related incidents. Odd that now we are coming towards elections the ANC becomes willing to assist.

  3. I think we need more social workers then police in our area , the kids need guidance and help not jail sentence.

  4. Only 95 members for the entire Western Cape..?I honestly don’t know whether I should laugh or cry…

One could argue that it’s “the proverbial thought that counts” or politically motivated “gevriet koop” but either way unfortunately we are not going to eradicate gangsterism and drug dealing by sending in this handful of brave souls like lambs to a slaughter, now are we..?
