A specialist from the University of Stellenbosch has been instrumental in the discovery of a small dinosaur that lived over 90 million years ago in what is now Utah, in the United States. Dr Ryan Tucker, is a sedimentologist and taphonomist in the Department of Earth Sciences at Stellenbosch University. He was part of an international team of scientists, lead by Dr Lindsay Zanno of the North Carolina Museum of Natural History. It is said to be the the oldest Cretaceous tyrannosaur species.Tucker was brought on board in 2015 to provide the geological context. Tucker’s work was done at Stellenbosch University’s Central Analytical Facility.
