A stolen white Hyundai SUV was recovered at Goqwana Locality in Tsolo after it was stolen at the R61 road near Mandela Park on Tuesday, at about 07h00.
“It is alleged that a 54-year-old woman was taking her 10-year-old boy and 6-year-old girl to school when she accidentally ran over a 13-year-old girl, who was standing next to the road,” said police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.
“It is further alleged that when she was still busy attending to the victim, an unknown man drove off with her vehicle with her two children inside and later dropped them near Chris Hani Park where he gave them a sum of R20 and ordered them to board a taxi to school.”
After Mthatha Flying Squad members made chase and tracking the vehicle, it was recovered abandoned at Goqwana Locality in Tsolo with no number plates.
“No arrest yet and police are investigating a case of theft of motor vehicle. Both children were found at school unharmed. Anyone with information may contact D/Colonel Mgolombane on 0824422527.”
Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomawethu Makonza, commended the police officers, saying; “It is our responsibility to protect the inhabitants of this country and their properties. I applaud you for your quick response and your dedication on your job.”
