A vegetation fire at Karweiderskraal near Hermanus in the Overberg region of the Western Cape has not been contained yet. Fire Chief and Disaster Management spokesperson in the Overstrand Municipality, Lester Smith, says they are assisted by a few fire fighters from an adjacent area and another agency to get the upper hand of the blaze that ignited late yesterday. Smith says a strong North Westerly wind is hampering their efforts: “The fire is not under control yet, we do have property under threat, however we do have vehicles on scene, firefighters on the line to protect property and life. There’s different vegetation burning, we have three flanks, one is in the mountain area, the other in a young plantation, we also have some fynbos and agriculture land that’s on fire.”
