A life sentence and additional 14 years imprisonment were imposed upon 27-year-old Mgciniseni Gcina Xaba, also known as Mswenya, after the magistrate at the Ngwelezane Regional Court heard how the accused accosted and murdered a 45-year-old woman, recently.
The victim, Doris Saleleni Ngema, was fatally shot in February 2018.

Provincial police spokesman, Lt Col Thulani Zwane said, “On February 25, 2018, four armed men accosted Ngema at her home in the Ntuzuma Reserve. One of the armed men accused her of reporting his criminal deeds to local anti-crime community members.”
They shot and killed the victim and then robbed family members of their cellphones.
Cases of murder and robbery were opened at the local police station for investigation. A month later, police arrested the accused, who was found with a firearm in his possession.

“The firearm was taken for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in Ngema’s killing and the results positively linked him to the murder. He made several court appearances and he was in custody throughout the trial,” added Lt Col Zwane.
On March 20, 2019, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, nine years imprisonment for possession of an unlicensed firearm and five years’ imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
