Three murder accused, who were arrested following the heinous killing of a taxi driver in Hazelmere, appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court, recently where they were each granted bail of R1500, 00.
The case has been postponed to January 10, 2019 for further investigation. The accused were arrested by detectives from the Provincial Task Team and KwaDukuza SAPS.

Aged between 27 and 43, the accused were also nabbed for attempted murder.
Provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbhele said, “It is alleged that on October 22 at about 9pm, Mlungisi Maphumulo (27), was at his place of residence in Hazelmere when three suspects stormed into his house and fatally shot him.”
The attackers fled the scene in their getaway vehicle. A case of murder was subsequently opened at Verulam SAPS.
“In the early hours of October 23, two men believed to be involved in the murder of a taxi driver in Verulam, were allegedly shot dead by unknown suspects while traveling in their blue Toyota Condor on the N2 freeway, just after the KwaDukuza turn-off,” she added.

An intensive investigation was conducted and the three suspects were quickly arrested.
The police confiscated the suspects’ three licensed firearms with 45 rounds of ammunition.
