The Association for Persons with Physical Disabilities in KwaZulu-Natal (APDKZN) renders social work services throughout the province.
The overall aim of the association is to take all possible action to enable people with disabilities to attain their maximum level of independence and integration into society.
A social worker renders services in the various areas.
The services rendered are therapeutic and family counselling, applications for assistive devices, assistance with referrals for disability grants and identity documents, institutional care placement and placement into the open labour market.
They have an established protective workshop, which caters for persons with physical disabilities. In October and November every year, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities focuses its efforts on furthering the rights of children with disabilities.
The focus is on the Nappy Run Campaign, which calls for South Africans to help with their most basic needs like nappies to people with disabilities, their mobility and a sense of self-worth which they are entitled to.
If you are able to assist with a donation of nappies or assist the protective workshop by volunteering your time for their skills development programme (sewing and bead work), call 031 403-7041.
