As our neighbouring Watch in the Strand says – your bin can be used…

As our neighbouring Watch in the Strand says – your bin can be used as a tool for crime.Often “vagrants” posing as bin-scratchers are found to have dangerous weapons on them when searched, they scout areas posing as scratchers and collect information that is used to commit crimes in your neighbourhood.

If you don’t believe us – then perhaps this information from our Station Commander, Col Williams, will convince you to stop leaving tempting items out with your rubbish. This was her message at a recent CPF meeting:

“Active patrolling Neighbourhood Watches are essential in getting information to the police. Crime in residential areas is directly linked to bin-scratchers. Get rid of the bin-scratchers and you reduce crime. (Do NOT put out your bin the night before, and NEVER purposely leave food / clothes / metal / electrical stuff out on or in your bin.

We will be auctioning BinGuards for a couple of weeks – starting today … so grab your chance to increase your security and support SWNW.

  1. The bin scratchers are actually after our recycle bags. How can we keep them from breaking the bags to get to a bottle and then leaving the broken plastic bag’s contents to be scattered by the wind or throwing all the recycle items in the bin with ordinary refuse(=no recycling)?

Mills str. Strand
