The Shastri Park resident was making his way home, with his grandson, when an argument between him and a well-known man in the neighborhood broke out.
After a few exchanges from Pillay and the suspect, Pillay was allegedly stabbed.
Speaking to the Phoenix Sun, his wife, Cookie Pillay, expressed her distress over her husband’s attack.
“My heart aches over what happened to my husband. My children are also disturbed and upset at what their father went through. We need justice to take its course,” she said.
She added, “My husband is the breadwinner in our home and ever since his attack, he has not been able to provide for us. Seeing him helplessly lying on a hospital bed in pain agonises my heart. We want justice to be served so that this becomes a lesson to other culprits, who go around causing grievous harm to breadwinners, fathers, sons and community role-models.”
