At least five classrooms at the Holy Cross Primary School near District Six in…

At least five classrooms at the Holy Cross Primary School near District Six in Cape Town have been completely gutted as a result of a fire in the building. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. There have been no reports of injuries. One of the gutted classrooms includes a library which was still in the process of being built. At the time of the fire, pupils had already left the building and were waiting for transport home. Divisional Commander for the City’s Fire and Rescue Service’s, Simon Abrahams: “When they arrived on scene the main school building as you can see behind me was quite involved or well involved in fire . We then called for resources and we now have four fire engines we ended up with three water tankers and a hydraulic platform on scene . We did some protection of the exposures we managed to save the church , the chapel this building on my right hand side which is a dwelling I think we saved that and another side of the houses we stopped it before that row of dwellings at the bottom.”
