Verulam SAPS would like to warn the community to be aware of criminals who identify themselves as employees from the eThekwini electrical department.
In a recently reported house robbery case, it is alleged that three suspects dressed in red overalls and rang the main gate intercom when the victim noticed them standing at the gate.

They identified themselves as electricity officials that had come to check the meter. The victim led them inside the premises to the kitchen where the meter was located.
One of the suspects then withdrew a firearm and began threatening her with it. The woman was led to the bedroom and locked inside as electrical equipment was stolen from the home.

These included two flat screen televisions, a home theatre system, a laptop, a desktop and a portable air conditioner. The victim was not injured during the incident.
Communications officer of Verulam SAPS, Cpt H Kisten, said, “With the festive season fast approaching, criminals will use more creative modus operandi to rob victims. The public is urged to be vigilant.”
