Beached dolphin saved at Kings Beach, Port Elizabeth

Jan 11, 2019Another beached dolphin was rescued at a Port Elizabeth beach on Thursday.According to the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI)Port Elizabeth station commander, Ian Gray, at 06h30, on Thursday, NSRI Station 6 Port Elizabeth were alerted to a dolphin beached at Kings Beach.”A lady walking her dog on the beach in the early morning had happened upon the dolphin beached,” he described.”The Marine Animal Stranding Network were activated and accompanied by a vet they kept the dolphin wet and assessed that the dolphin was healthy and could be released at sea.”Gray said that the NSRI were requested to assist to take the dolphin to sea to be released and their duty crew were activated.”The female Common Dolphin was brought to our sea rescue station and loaded onto the sea rescue craft Spirit of Toft, accompanied by members of Bayworld, and we transported the dolphin to three nautical miles South of Cape Recife and the dolphin was released into the sea and the dolphin appeared to swim off strongly and the Marine Animal Stranding Network are cautiously optimistic that the dolphin will survive.”Beached dolphin saved in Jeffreys BayGray said that the coastline will be monitored in the days ahead in case the dolphin beaches again.Last week, the NSRI in Jeffreys Bay, with help from the Bayworld Oceanarium and CapeCross Veterinary Services, also managed to rescue a beached 2.5 metre dolphin.Follow more RNEWS articles, subscribe to our YouTube channel and for breaking news LIKE us on Facebook.
