The body of a young man who was shot dead was found hidden in a hole on the edge of Greenfield Dam near Esselen Park on Monday.
The 24-year-old man sustained a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Sgt Johanna Madiga, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, said the police found the body after an abandoned car was spotted in the area.
She said a sector patrol vehicle received a complaint of an abandoned car near the dam. Upon arrival, officers found a silver Toyota Etios with the registration number HG 15 DW GP.
“There was blood on the driver’s seat and the passenger door window was broken. The car radio and three rims and tyres had been removed from the vehicle,” said Madiga.
Police tried to trace the details of the owner of the car without success.
“A search ensued around the surrounding area and about 300 metres away the body was found hidden in a hole near the water’s edge.
“Although the man was identified, his next of kin could not be traced and the body was taken to Germiston mortuary,” she said.
