Cases of business robbery and carjacking are being probed at Verulam SAPS after four armed men, stormed into a business premises, robbing customers of valuables and cash before fleeing the scene of the crime in a stolen vehicle.

It is alleged that the complaint was at his Trenance Park business premises, attending to customers, when the brazen criminals barged in.
The suspects robbed the complainant and customers of their cellphones, cash and other valuables. At this moment, another customer entered the store.
The suspects robbed him of his cellphone and stole his vehicle, which they used to flee the scene.
Cpt Henry Kisten, communications officer of Verulam SAPS, said, “We are warning the community, especially tuck-shop owners and other business owners, who operate late into the evening, to have security measures in place as criminals observe the operating hours of places and pick the opportune moment to strike.”
He urged business owners to avoid conducting business late into the evening, especially during winter.

“We are also asking the community to work with the police in our fight against crime by becoming part of their local community crime forum. Tuck-shop owners need to take these warnings seriously, as they are being viewed as soft targets. The police will be conducting blue light patrols and increasing police patrols,” he concluded.
