A 38-year-old Durban businessman was fatally shot after attempting to intervene in an altercation at the Palm Boulevard in Umhlanga on Saturday.
Keegan Naidoo, owner of Durban Licensing, which is a business that licenses newly purchased vehicles, was involved in an incident outside the nightclub in which an altercation broke out between two groups of people resulting in four people being shot.

Netcare 911 paramedics responded just after 3am to reports of a shooting.
Media liaison officer, Shawn Herbst said, “Reports from the scene indicate that three members of the public and a security officer were shot during an altercation outside a club. The patients were treated on scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment.”
Naidoo passed away in hospital later that morning.
Provincial police spokeswoman, Col Thembeka Mbhele, said three firearms were recovered from the scene.
“Four men had a dispute at the Palm Boulevard and a shoot-out ensued. They all sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital for medical attention. A 38-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries on arrival. Durban North police are investigating a case of murder and three counts of attempted murder,” she said.
His brother-in-law, Daven Moodley, said Naidoo rushed to where the incident occurred to assist his relative.

“It was just a stupid argument, a relative bumped into someone and that’s what started the altercation. He went to check on what was happening, and he was aggressively approached by a group of 12 men who all had firearms. The guys who shot him are a notorious gang, they are known for many shooting cases,” said Moodley. Naidoo was laid to rest by his loving family at the Shri Mariammen Temple Hall on Sunday.
