Cape Town Mayor, Dan Plato, has welcomed the thousands of visitors pouring into the Mother City for the HSBC Rugby Sevens tournament. The much anticipated global showpiece starts at 10:15 at the Cape Town stadium in Green Point. Last week, the city was named the World’s Leading Festival and Events Destination at the 2018 World Travel Awards. Over 100 000 people are expected to attend the event. Plato’s happy about the economic boost for Cape Town and wants the rugby tourists to also enjoy all its other attractions: “It’s a good pre-season injection into our economy. We say to the visitor to Cape Town, enjoy Table Mountain, enjoy the Waterfront, enjoy Kirstenbosch but also enjoy our other scenery like our beaches. One moment you’re in Cape Town, an hours drive away you’re in the platteland. That is what makes Cape Town such a wonderful city.”
