Cape Winelands fire fighters have spent the night battling a blaze high up in…

Cape Winelands fire fighters have spent the night battling a blaze high up in the mountains at McGregor in the Western Cape. Families who were evacuated in the area and surrounds in the Langeberg Municipality have returned to their homes. This comes after strong winds which threatened properties in the area died down last night. Cape Winelands Fire Commander, Piet du Plessis, however says the fire is not yet under control and is still burning in the direction of Stormsvlei near the N2 in the Swellendam area. He says they have 16 fire fighting vehicles, 37 fire fighters and another 48 ground crew on the scene. About 9000 hectares of vegetation have thus far been destroyed in the blaze.
