Cape Winelands fire services says the families who were evacuated at McGregor and surrounding areas in the Langeberg have returned to their homes. This, after strong winds which threatened properties the area died down. Cape Winelands Fire Commander, Piet du Plessis, says two houses at the foot of the mountain suffered smoke damage. Du Plessis however says the fire is not yet under control and is still burning in the direction of Stormsvlei near the N2 in the directin of Swellendam. He says they have 15 fire-fighting vehicles, 33 fire fighters and 48 volunteers on the scene. About 20 hectares of vegetation have thus far been destroyed.
