In Muizenberg on 26 January at 06:30 in the morning, Law Enforcement officers on patrol on the Muizenberg/ St James Walkway were alerted by a jogger that he was just robbed of his cell phone by a knife wielding male suspect. The officers immediately started a search for the suspect and he was apprehended shortly thereafter at St James beach. The victim positively identified the 35 year old suspect from Lavender Hill. He was arrested and taken to Muizenberg SAPS where it was discovered he was out on bail for other criminal acts he had allegedly committed. The victim is commended for his courage in taking a stand against crime by pressing charges against his attacker. So often officers catch these robbers but the victims refuse to press charges. This gives them a chance to continue their criminal acts.

Journalist robbed in Mitchell Plain

A Media 24 parliamentary reporter has been robbed while covering the voter registration drive in Mitchels”s Plain. Jan Gerber says he was leaving the registration venue for his car when the incident happened. Gerber says he was a little shaken but then went to the nearest police station to open a case of robbery. He says he is more upset over the pictures he lost: “ As I got to my car two men approached me and grabbed the camera strap; as I resisted, they tried to pull my camera and one of them pulled out a knife. I decided it’s probably a good time to stop fighting. I think the one guy cut the strap of the camera and then they went.”

A 38-year-old foreign national has been arrested in Cape Town for allegedly selling prescribed drugs in the CBD.

Police say members of the Narcotics Unit conducted an undercover operation in Strand street after receiving a tip-off.

The police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, said “an undercover agent purchased an abortion tablet for one-thousand-rand, leading to the suspect’s arrest. They further seized 260 abortion tablets and 175 Adco tablets worth about 270-thousand-rand.”

The suspect will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges under the Medicine Control Act.

A 23-year-old woman from Mitchell Plain has been arrested after she was found with drugs to an estimated street value of R30 000. When police raided a home in Mitchells Plain on the Cape Flats on Saturday.

Mitchell’s Plain acted on a tip off them the community about drugs that were kept at an address in Monsoon Street, Rocklands in Mitchells Plain, explained police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.

“Upon their arrival at the address, police found a total of 1110 Mandrax tablets, 30 grams crushed Mandrax, and 20 grams of tik (methamphetamine) with an estimated street value of R30 000.”

A 23-year-old woman was arrested and would appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrate’s court once she had been charged, Rwexana said.
