Centane man jailed for raping 68-year-old woman on her way to see her daughter

Jan 30, 2019Justice was served when the Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and on Wednesday sentenced a 26-year-old man, Onke Dyubhele, to undergo 22 years imprisonment for raping a 68-year-old woman.”It is alleged that the victim was walking on foot from Nyityhaba Locality, Mcothama Village, Centane to visit her daughter, who was staying at Ngadla Village, Willowvale,” said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.”It was on the 05 September 2016, at about 13:30, when she was about to cross the river.”She came across with the accused, who did not say any word.”The accused person attacked the victim and dragged her to a nearby forest where he raped her.”Centane man jailed for raping womanCapt Manatha said that a case of rape was later opened at the Centane Police Station.”The case was handed over to the Butterworth Family Violence and Child Protection Unit (FCS) for investigation,” he added.”The accused was traced and arrested.”The hefty sentence handed to the accused will send a strong message to the perpetrators who are abusing women and children.”Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, welcomed the sentence and praised the investigator, who properly and professionally investigated the case.Follow more RNEWS articles, subscribe to our YouTube channel and for breaking news LIKE us on Facebook.
