Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into Editorial Interference at the SABC, Joe Thloloe…

Chairperson of the Commission of Inquiry into Editorial Interference at the SABC, Joe Thloloe says the abuse of power at the SABC started from the governing party down to staff in the newsroom. Thloloe released a report on editorial interference yesterday. He found that some executives took instruction from ANC leaders, particularly the former Communications Minister, Faith Muthambi. His report also revealed incidents of staff victimisation. Thloloe was speaking to the SABC: “It trickled from even above her, from the Cabinet right up to the ordinary person in the newsroom. People who had power wanted others to know that they have power and they can control them and run their lives. You find the Minister of Communications bullying reporters on the job and saying I can fire you and I can fire your bosses. I am the boss.”
