Dr. Nthuthuko Mahlaba was formally charged with murder, in relation to the killing of an ANC Youth League leader Wandile Ngubeni.
In another court at the same time, the mayor of the Harry Gwala District Municipality Mluleki Ndobe saw murder charges against him being withdrawn. The province has seen over two dozen killings that appear to be linked to politics in the last two years.
