Charges have been withdrawn against a teacher accused of slapping a San Souci Girls…

Charges have been withdrawn against a teacher accused of slapping a San Souci Girls High School learner in Newlands earlier this year. The teacher, Clarissa Venter and the learner’s mother laid counter assault charges. An altercation in the classroom between the two was recorded on video by another learner. In the video the pupil can be seen shoving Venter, who then retaliated by striking the pupil across her face. Venter was suspended but has since been reinstated. Her lawyer, William Booth: “We have had quite a few postponements in the matter but yesterday Chief Prosecutor at Wynberg Magistrates Court considered the matter and he withdrew the case on the merits. In other words based on the evidence in the police docket that he did not feel there were sufficient grounds to continue with the prosecution and then withdrew the charges against Miss Venter.”

  1. As a child of the last age where we were taught to respect and revere our educators. If I failed a test or even did poorly I would start thinking of how to dodge both my teacher and my parents. I don’t think the slapping was right, but in the educators defence, enough is enough. Let’s take things back to the basics where kids learn respect at home and are not expected to learn it at school.

  2. Some people-should just home school their kids because they did not rear their kids properly. They are not ready for society or real life!

  3. Parents do not respect teachers, they speak wrongly about teachers in front of kids amd thats the problem . Parents, parent pls. You cant be friends with your child , until they ate adults . So be the coach, guide, disciplinarian, the encourager for now
