City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee for Transport, Felicity Purchase, says it is unacceptable…

City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee for Transport, Felicity Purchase, says it is unacceptable to allow a handful of people to prevent the rolling out of the MyCitibus routes in the Plumstead and Wynberg areas. This, after the South Road Residents Association disputed Purchase’s claim that the City had been successful in a court application to have around 26 families removed from city-owned rental stock. The buildings would then be demolished in order for the 780-million rand project to be rolled out. Purchase says the alternative routes which the residents suggested are not suitable for the project: “The alternative route is not suitable for a trunk route. We cannot dig up the road and re-surface it for a trunk route, there’s just not enough space and there’s too many businesses and residents along that route and that’s just the way the position is.”
