The hard work and dedication of the pupils of Clayridge Primary School has paid off as the school’s young athletes have claimed a 12th consecutive victory in the district school sports held at Kingspark Stadium on September 7.
Sports co-ordinator, Mr Nundkumar, was moved by the achievement.
“For 12 consecutive years, it’s quite the achievement. Praise definitely goes to the coaches and pupils that came before us however three young students, Laban Reddy, Sqiniseko Ncwane and Subelo Zulu are unquestionably our star athletes this year,” he said.
Each of the grade seven athletes earned gold for the school in their respective events.

Reddy dominated the 100m, Ncwana showed his endurance in the 1500m run and Zulu ran the 1200m. The boys were quite proud of their achievements enthusiastically describing the experience.
“The moment when I crossed the finish line first, it was a surreal feeling,” said Reddy.
Zulu expressed interest in continuing to run at high school level and beyond.
“These pupils have had no formal coaching besides what we as a public school has to offer, they have been succeeding on pure talent and determination. That is to be commended,” he said.
Principal at Clayridge Primary, Mr KG Naidoo said, “While we at Clayridge has always done our best to promote sport both through myself and previous principal, Mr A Govender. We are a public school and resources are limited. For 12 years, the pupils of the school found success on the sport ground despite the challenges faced by our pupils. It is a testament to their skill, determination, and talent. Congratulations to our athletes and know that you have brought great honour to our school.”
