Commuters travelling on Metrorail trains in Cape Town on the northern live have expressed…

Commuters travelling on Metrorail trains in Cape Town on the northern live have expressed frustration at what they say is an unreliable service. This, as recovery operations are underway between the Tygerberg and Bellville stations where a goods train derailed earlier today. The train was carrying a load of grain which has been spilled across the tracks. In addition to this, the first phase of a re-signalling project is underway at Cape Town station, which has forced the closure of platforms 13 to 23 until Friday. A pensioner, who prefers to remain anonymous, says the constant interruption of Metrorail services is causing a strain on her finances as she has to find an alternate transport at an extra cost: “I buy a monthly ticket and then the trains are late so I can’t be late so I have to take a bus so I have to take out extra money not only that my son he’s got to take a train and he works for a British firm and hell no, you don’t come late you can take a six o’ clock to Cape Town and not be there by eight o’clock something needs to be done.”
