Constantia businessman, Rob Packham, has been convicted of the February 2018 murder of his wife, Gill. Cape Town High court judge Elize Steyn has also found him guilty of obstructing the administration of justice. Packham was arrested in March last year after his wife’s charred body was found in the boot of her burnt out car near the Diep River railway station. Handing down judgement, Steyn says she found Packham to be an accomplished liar and a crafty deceiver who lived a selfish double life: “The accused did not act in a manner expected on a distraught and later bereaved husband, and when he was challenged about his conduct he responded in a manner incompatible with the situation. During the proceedings in court the accused did not express emotion, not even when the pathologist gave gruesome evidence of the injuries to the deceased. The accused has shown to be an accomplished liar and deceiver. Packham’s two daughters left court without speaking to the media. Gill Packham’s family says they will respond in due course.
