COPS: ONLY THE COURT CAN DROP A CASE

ALBERTON police have decided no cases can be withdrawn after being opened.Captain Manare Ramotshela said: “If one has opened a case, he must understand it will not be cancelled or withdrawn by a police officer at the station.“The case will only be withdrawn in a court of law. Police are appealing to residents to make sure they want to lay a charge and don’t plan to withdraw it.” Daily Sun asked SunReaders how they felt about the decision. Lucky Majola (37) from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni said: “People are wasting government resources and time. I hope this will teach them to think before they act.”Mmathapelo Mokoena (28) wasn’t sure: “Sometimes people open cases but end up changing their minds.” Minenhle Nkosi (33) from Vosloorus said she was 100% behind the decision. She said she had withdrawn cases, and this will help her make better decisions. “I always make silly decisions and waste the time.“This will definitely push me to think before I decide to lay charges.”Sizwe Zulu said: “I hoped the police would come to this decision. People think cop stations are playgrounds. I stand by this.”
