PIENAAR cops in Mpumalanga are warning gun owners to stick to the rules of owning a firearm.This is after a 42-year-old man accidentally killed his friend (35).The incident happened on Sunday while they were sitting in a car chatting.According to Pienaar police spokeswoman Captain Jabu Ndubane, the friends were attending the funeral service of a taxi driver who was hijacked and killed. Ndubane said the suspect was trying to put his gun in a safe place when the incident happened.“The suspect was holding his licensed firearm when a shot went off and accidentally shot the victim in the lower abdomen. “The suspect rushed the victim to the clinic but he later died,” she said.Ndubane said cops were worried about how gun owners randomly shoot in the area, especially during funerals. “Such cases worry us. Guns are not toys and people must not just carry their firearms randomly,” she said. Police have opened a murder case and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
