Leader of the Democratic Liberal Congress, Cllr Patrick Pillay revealed the party’s ward 48 by-election candidate- Rogers Marimuthoo Naidoo-this week.
Cllr Pillay said that he was carefully selected among others after an interview process, which saw many people applying with the DLC. He is a family man, lives in Clayfield and has experienced first-hand the lack of service delivery.
“Naidoo was the ideal candidate because he is committed to serving the community unconditionally without fear or favour. The DLC is confident that he will be bringing about much-needed transformation in ward 48 in terms of service delivery that comprises of Clayfield, Greenbury, Stonebridge, Rainham, Rockford, Centenary Park and Southgate,” said Cllr Pillay.
He added that as a DLC activist, he assisted many people with major civic-related issues, lights and water accounts, grass-cutting, roads rehabilitation, clinic and hospital health care matters and social grants.

Naidoo said that his motto in life is to serve humanity with passion and to bring smiles to the faces of all people.
He is a former professional soccer player and played during his youth days for Young Springboks, Verulam Suburbs, Argus Power and Aces United. He has been serving the community through various organisations during his life and joined the DLC in 2016.
Naidoo is a member of various organisations such as Friends without Borders, Help a Student Foundation (HAS) and other institutions.
“I am driven by the will and strength of bringing a smile to the destitute and the indigent people in our society of ward 48 and the Phoenix community through the DLC,” he said.
Cllr Pillay concluded, “When Naidoo is elected as the DLC ward councillor, he will bring about much-needed change and effective service delivery to all the residents of ward 48. The community of ward 48 will be proud of his commitment when he is elected as their councillor.”
