Drakenstein Municipality firefighters who were battling a fire at the KWV bottling plant at Paarl, in the Boland, have prevented the fire from causing damage to tanks storing more than 90 000 litres of brandy at the distillery. The full extent of the damage caused by the fire is unclear at this stage. The cause of the fire is also undetermined. Municipality spokesperson, Riana Geldenhuys, says three minor injuries were reported. She says the incident is being investigated: “Besides two KWV employees and a Drakenstein municipal firefighter who sustained minor smoke inhalation injuries, no one was seriously injured in the fire and all staff are being accounted for. There were 48 firefighters and officers as well as 14 fire services vehicles at the scene and they managed to successfully prevent the fire from damaging tanks storing 90 000 litres of KWV brandy.”
