A driver was killed and several others injured following a head-on collision on the south bound lane of the M4 vicinity of the Umdloti Beach off-ramp near La Mercy, yesterday evening.
Reaction Unit South Africa responded to the scene at about 6:02pm after being informed of the collision by passing motorists.

“It was established, upon arrival, that the driver of a Ford Ranger bakkie was killed the high-impact collision. Several passengers of a mini-bus taxi were also injured. They were stabilised at the scene by medics before being transported to hospital,” a report issued by RUSA stated.
The report further claimed, “It is alleged that the driver of a Jeep Wrangler was travelling in the direction of Umdloti Beach when he overtook a Mercedes Benz mini-bus taxi. His vehicle collided head on into the Ford Ranger that was travelling in the opposite direction. The SUV then collided into the taxi which left the roadway and climbed several metres up an embankment before it came to a stop.”

The 54-year-old driver of the Jeep Wrangler sustained moderate injuries.
He was also transported to hospital by ambulance.
