Authorities at the scene of the collision, which claimed the life of a 42-year-old man.
A 42-year-old man died following a collision involving two vehicles on the north bound lane of the R102 at the Canelands intersection, over the weekend.
While investigations into the matter continue, a report issued by Reaction Unit South Africa indicated that they were called out to the scene by a passing motorist.

“Upon arrival, it was established that a VW Polo collided head on into the back of a Hyundai ix35,” the report said.
The driver of the VW Polo was killed in the collision.
The Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate his body from his extensively damaged vehicle.
“According to the driver of the Hyundai ix35, he was travelling in the direction of Ballito when he noticed the VW Polo in his rear view mirror approaching at high speed and attempting to change lanes. He then swerved in an attempt to avoid a collision, however the VW Polo slammed into the back of his vehicle,” the RUSA report further claimed.

The three occupants of the Hyundai ix35 were not injured.
