A burglar was arrested after he sold items which he had stoled from an Empangeni primary school.
A NOTORIOUS burglar was finally nabbed last week after having broken into Pinocchio Primary School.
Preggie Vandayar of Vandamme Security said a known burglar was arrested after he and an accomplice stole a radio, kettle and TV from the primary school in Dunne Road last Saturday.
The school is situated next to a church which has also been targeted a number of times in the past.
The past weekend marked the third time that the school had been broken into.
In the first incident, gardening tools were stolen and during the second, the burglars did not succeed in gaining access to the school.
Vandayar said the suspect was arrested in eSikhawini on Wednesday.
‘We received a call saying two men gained access to the school after the maintenance staff left one of the doors open. Cold drinks, a kettle and radio were taken that afternoon. The suspect then returned later that night to steal a TV.
Vandayar said that images of the men were made available through the school’s CCTV cameras.
‘We spent almost a week looking for the suspects and we identified the arrested suspect because he was wearing the same clothing which he wore on the day of the burglary. We recovered the stolen items which the man sold for cash.’
Vandayar said security at the school has been beefed up.
