With the aid of Rotary International, Phoenix Secondary School embarked on a project to improve the sanitation facilities at the school following a grant awarded to the school.
The school, a long standing part of the community, has been through its best and worst, but in the spirit of improving and refurbishing, the school, like their symbol once again rises from the ashes.
Principal of Phoenix Secondary School, Mr PS Govender, said as with many schools in the area, they face issues with funding.
As a result, some of the schools older sanitation facilities have fallen into disrepair. It is with the aid of Rotary that they are now able to refurbish these facilities.

“Target areas include the male and female toilets as well as the boys and girls change rooms. This will be a tremendous benefit to the bright young pupils of Phoenix Secondary who will now be able to remain focused in class and feel better due to clean sanitation areas. A pupil can be proud to come to learn,” he said.
Pupil of Phoenix Secondary, Haily Moodley, said, “The money is being used for the best resource possible, our school’s sanitation areas. Our school is changing for the better, our teachers and principal are all hard at work ensuring this.”
The future is looking bright for Phoenix Secondary.
