Fire crews and aerial support have been bolstered to fight a raging mountain fire at Franschhoek in the Boland. The Cape Winelands District Municipality says ground crews have increased to 175 firefighters while five helicopters are waterbombing the flames from the air. The vegetation fire, that ignited late yesterday, has forced the closure of the Franschhoek Pass. There’s currently no threat to property. Fire crews are also trying to protect farms on the 10 kilometre long fireline.
