Fire Manager of the Table mountain National Park (TMNP), Phillip Prins ,says the vegetation fire that started this afternoon near Camps Bay has been brought under control. Four helicopters were called in to assist the firefighters. More than 70 firefighters from TMNP, the City’s Fire and Rescue Services and Working on Fire have been battling the blaze since this afternoon. They braved sweltering weather conditions in Cape Town to prevent the blaze, that broke out in the Glen picnic area, from reaching homes in the Camps Bay area. The fire forced the closure of Kloof Nek Road for several hours. TMNP says there has been no damage to properties at this stage. Prins says the fire has been 80 percent contained.
