Firefighters are dealing with minor flare-ups on the Hottentots Holland mountains where the R-44 remains closed to traffic. Cape Town Fire and Rescue spokesperson, Theo Layne, says the fire is currently burning next to the road but poses no threat to property. The fire ignited on New Year’s Day near Pringle Bay after a man allegedly set off a flare. Thousands of hectares of vegetation, as well as a house and a cottage on a small holding have burnt. The flames were fanned by strong south-easterly winds which forced the evacuation of the Kogel’s Bay resort on Sunday.
