Firefighters are still trying to bring a vegetation fire between Pringle Bay and Betty’s…

Firefighters are still trying to bring a vegetation fire between Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay in the Overberg under control. The fire, which started on New Year’s Day has now burnt about four-thousand-500 hectares of land. It broke out after a flare was set off illegally. A man has been arrested under the Nature Conservation’s Act, a charge more serious than arson and will appear in court on Monday. A house and cottage on a small holding burnt down as well as a firetruck. Overstrand Municipality Fire Chief, Lester Smith, says the fire currently poses no danger to property as it is now burning high up in the mountains. (Photo: Greater Overberg FPA)
