RESIDENTS of Qaza Village outside Malamulele, Limpopo are shocked after four kids aged between nine and 15 were mauled by a vicious dog on Monday afternoon.Phillip Nkuna (15) said he was walking home with friends when a big dog charged at them. “My friend was the first to be attacked,” said Phillip.“Then the dog came for me. “I hit the dog with my fists but I realised I was fighting a losing battle. I screamed in pain and gave up the fight. That’s when the dog let go of me.” He said he couldn’t walk because his feet and hands were bleeding. “An elderly woman took us to the local clinic in a wheelbarrow,” said Phillip.There were two other people at the clinic who had been attacked by the same dog.“We were taken to Malamulele Hospital by ambulance. We were treated and released the next day.”Mbhazima Mdluli (50), the gogo of one of the boys, said her grandson was playing outside with friends when the dog attacked him.Headman Risenga Qaza said they didn’t have a big black dog with a brown spot in the village.Animal health technician Dicks Mashaba said: “Dogs with rabies can attack anyone, including their owners.“We appeal to dog owners to their take their dogs for vaccination.”
